Yankee Ridge Elementary School in Urbana, Illinois, was expanded and renovated to create a three-strand school and subsequently converted into Urbana School District 116’s only multilingual school. The expansion involved two single-story additions, totaling 26,750 square feet. The first included new school entrances, a gymnasium with a stage, three fine arts classrooms, and support space. The second addition was an eight-classroom wing for grades 3-5. The 40,625-square-foot existing building was completely renovated including all academic, administrative, and support spaces as well as mechanical and electrical systems upgrades. Site improvements included the addition of on-site bus and car drop-off lanes, visitor parking, and playgrounds.
