Total Project Cost:
$15,600,000.00
The Urbana Early Childhood School for Urbana School District 116 serves pre-kindergarten students ages three to five, including those with special education needs. The single-story, 41,000-square-foot school consists of three discrete four-classroom "villages" organized around shared program, administrative and support spaces. Located adjacent to the existing Prairie Elementary School, a 13,400-square-foot connecting addition was also designed for shared use by both schools, including fine arts classrooms, a gymnasium with bleachers and stage, and a public entrance and lobby. Sustainable design features included ground source heating and cooling (geothermal). and optimal daylighting of classrooms, corridors, and offices.
