Expansion and Renovation - 2023
Total Project Cost:
$19,000,000.00
After Urbana School District 116's redistricting effort, Thomas Paine Elementary School in Urbana, Illinois was expanded and renovated to accommodate additional students. The expansion included two additions totaling 26,500 square feet. The first provided a new gymnasium with a stage, restrooms, and four fine arts classrooms that also serve as the building’s storm shelter. Eight new classrooms were also added to the existing K-2 wing. The existing 43,000-square-foot building underwent a complete renovation which included converting the existing gym into a multipurpose dining hall and installing a new ground source heat pump (geothermal) system for heating and cooling. Site work included improvements to vehicular circulation, increased staff and visitor parking, dedicated student drop-off lanes and new playgrounds.
