Ubben Basketball Complex
Project Type/Date Complete:
New Construction - 1998
Total Project Cost:
$4,000,000.00
The Richard T. Ubben Basketball Complex at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was the first freestanding, dedicated basketball practice facility built for an NCAA Division 1 program in the country, setting a trend in collegiate athletic facilities that continues to this day. Influenced by Title IX, the facility provided equal accommodations for both the men's and women's basketball programs, including practice courts, locker rooms, player's lounges and video/meeting rooms, as well as sports medicine, strength training, laundry and equipment storage areas. The project also included coaches' offices, lockers and conference rooms. 40,000 square feet of space was provided on two levels with a balcony overlooking each practice court.
