The vacated Champaign County Nursing Home in Urbana, Illinois, was converted into a Homeland Security Training Center managed by the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (ILEAS). ILEAS coordinates services for over 900 Illinois law enforcement agencies in matters of mutual aid, emergency response and resources for public safety. The original project renovated 30,000 square feet for classroom and administrative offices. Classrooms are equipped with state-of-the-art audio and video conferencing technology and range in size from 12-person breakout areas to a seminar space for 120 people. A subsequent project renovated an additional 30,000 square feet for tactical, crime scene, K9, and other scenario-based training. Planned future additions to the facility include an auditorium, vehicular-based indoor tactical training, and a distribution center for emergency response equipment.
