Student Union
Project Type/Date Complete:
New Construction - 2015
Total Project Cost:
$28,000,000.00
The design of the new 108,000-square-foot Student Union at Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois, adapted the original “educational village” concept of post-war educational architect Ernest J. Kump and Associates to create a much-needed and distinctive “front door” to the campus. The building consolidates student and administrative services that were previously dispersed around campus into a single convenient location. The glass-walled entry pavilion serves as the focal point of the new building, which provides interior connections to the other campus wings. This project ushered in a new standard of environmental stewardship for the college with its LEED Silver certification.
