Fine and Applied Arts Additions
Project Type/Date Complete:
Expansion and Renovation - 2014
Total Project Cost:
$8,000,000.00
Two additions were designed for the Parkland College Theater to expand and consolidate arts programming on the main campus: a visual arts addition to the west and a performing arts addition to the east. The single-story visual arts addition contains eight new art studios, support spaces, and faculty offices. Included are 3D studios for ceramics, sculpture, woodworking, and metalworking, all having direct access to an outdoor workspace. 2D studios for painting, drawing, and design with abundant north light, and a Mac lab are also included. The corridor serving the studios doubles as exhibition space and provides storage lockers. The three-story performing arts addition contains a 2,000-square-foot black box theater with an upper-level control booth and gallery, a main lobby level with a box office and restrooms, and a basement storage area with trap access to the stage above.
