Japan House
Project Type/Date Complete:
New Construction - 1998
In collaboration with University of Illinois Professor Emeritus of Architecture Jack Baker, this project involved the planning, design and construction of the 3,120 square foot Japanese cultural education center located on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Designed in the traditional Japanese house style, three authentic tea rooms surround a larger multi-purpose space all of which support classes and other informal educational sessions regarding Japanese culture. The building along with the surrounding landscape, which includes traditional Tea and Dry Gardens, provides a permanent home for the University’s Japanese arts and culture curriculum.
