The Urbana Park District's iconic Carle Park Pavilion in Urbana, Illinois, required rehabilitation due to long-term deterioration and vandalism issues. The century-old, two-story, Italian Renaissance Revival-style structure underwent a full range of restorative work. This included replacing the roofing systems, repointing and cleaning the limestone masonry, and repairing the concrete foundation, steps, and walkways. To minimize future vandalism, wrought iron security gates, window guards, LED vandal-resistant lighting, and a video surveillance system were added. The gates can be unlocked to provide access to the pavilion’s interior for special events.
