Illinois Terminal
Project Type/Date Complete:
New Construction - 1999
Total Project Cost:
$7,500,000.00
The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District's 50,000-square-foot intermodal transportation building in downtown Champaign, Illinois provides a consolidated terminal for intercity bus service, rail passenger service, and a major transfer point for local mass transit. In addition to the multimodal transit function, the building was designed for mixed use to encourage additional economic activity in an area targeted for redevelopment. The facility houses various other tenants including a meeting and banquet venue on the top floor overlooking downtown Champaign. Illinois Terminal was the first in the state to bring together intercity bus, rail, and local transit services in a single location. This project pioneered the revitalization of downtown Champaign and serves as the ground transportation gateway to Champaign-Urbana and the University of Illinois.
